"Exclusive Jolly Phonics & Jolly Literacy Workshops"
As an important part of our teachers' professional development, members of our team travelled to Bangkok to take part in a Jolly Phonics workshop on Saturday, May 30th. The workshop equipped them with indispensable skills tailored for the effective instruction of phonics to help our young learners become skilled readers at an early age.
Educational research has shown that Jolly Phonics is a proven and successful method that effectively teaches children to read effectively and confidently by providing them they need with the basic skills they need.
These basic skills include:
1. Learning the letter sounds – each letter represents a specific sound in English
2. Learning letter formation – learning how to write the letters correctly and how to hold a pencil
3. Blending – combining the sounds of the different letters
4. Identifying the sounds in different words (segmenting) – listening to complete words and isolating the individual sounds
5. Tricky words – some words in English don’t follow the “rules” and must be learned.
